The Artist and her Muse

From the artist: "My name is Jacqueline Gelfuso and I am an artist and professor of art. I have earned a BFA and MFA, both with a concentration in drawing and painting. I relocated to Long Island in the summer of 2006 after I completed my Master's program at the Hartford Art School in West Hartford, CT. I am an artist because it is an incontestable part of my being. I create two dimensional works which are often very large. My first love is drawing, and I have discovered that drawing is really an intricate part of any artwork. Frequently, my works start off as drawings and slowly evolve into paintings utilizing traditional drawing techniques in oil paint. My inspiration lies within nature and the human figure.In addition to drawing and painting, jewelry design is one of my passions. I truly enjoy every facet of the process because of the three dimensional aspect. I love to work with my hands in order to manipulate and construct 'wearable art'. I believe I am passionate about this type of design, in particular, because I am a figurative artist and jewelry is meant to move and work with the body.I am currently finding new ways to express myself visually, and this happens to include many different elements. I am envisioning a succinct series of works that deal with the passion I have for the living world. I plan to accomplish this by utilizing specific imagery that I have personally found to represent and embody the energies and mystery I have perceived around me in nature. This may include forms and subject matter related to trees, the human form, owls/birds, as well as, specific graphic patterns/abstractions.
